Look, blogger, we've been together for a long time, but we haven't really gotten close. I know we're both feeling this, and I'm just going to be the one to come out and say it.
It's not working between us.
I don't want you to think that it's anything you did. It's not you; it's me. I've been a terrible blogger and frankly, I'm just not the type of person who blogs. I've led you on for almost a year now, and I'm terrible for that. You deserve better. I hope we can still be friends and I'll try to visit as often as I can, but I think it's best for the both of us if we just call this what it is.
Hey guys, (I've accepted the fact that there aren't actually thousands of beautiful ladies reading this blog and in reality my readership is probably no more than Drew, Nick, and Andy, if that) this will probably be my last blog post, unless I come up with something I really need to share with the world (aka you guys) and for some reason can't just tell you it.
We've come pretty full circle with this blog. In my first post, I made it known that I was not much of a blogger, and I'm proving it here. More importantly, though, I said that I wanted to use this blog mainly as a way to share music, and I've found a much easier, and in my opinion, much much better way of doing so.
If you guys want to keep following me in cyberspace, or if you just want to hear some great music, I will now be moving to http://8tracks.com/citizeninsane.
So I was at my friend Nick's apartment on Saturday and after killing some aliens with my chainsaw bayonet for a while, I looked at his computer and saw that old familiar bloggy website. Nick has recently started his own blog, Intentionally Tactless (http://intentionallytactlesshonesty.blogspot.com/) and seeing it put me back in the blog mood.
I don't know how many of you ever read my blog to begin with, but of the doubtless thousands (of, I assume, lovely ladies) that did, it probably alarmed you when I suddenly fell off the map last January and have not been heard from since. (Although you really shouldn't have been alarmed; I warned you about that kind of thing happening in my first post).
Regardless, I have made my triumphant return, and shall now regale you with my many recent adventures and escapades.
Summer 2009 was perhaps the best 3 months of my life. My sojourn began on June 7 as I flew out to the lovely town of Welsley, MA, to meet up with my good friend Eileen. From there we drove through one mountain range, across a whole lot of flat (including my hometown) all the way to the other mountain range, the absolutely amazing Rocky Mountains. 5 weeks were spent at the foot of beautiful Mount Meeker working as counselors at Camp Wojtyla. (For those of you who aren't Polish, that's "Voy-TEE-wa") Let me just say this: God wasn't messing around when he made the Rockies. Colorado is perhaps the most gorgeous and wild place I've ever been. The people I met there have affected my life immensely and, I hope, I have theirs as well. God willing, I'll be right back there with them next summer.
My three favorite peaks. From left: Mount Meeker, Long's Peak, and Mount Lady Washington
Waking up at 3am is worth it when you get to treeline before sunrise.
On top of the world!
The rest of my summer was filled with music, music, and more music. Before I had even made it back home, Eileen and I stopped in my favorite city in the world, Chicago, to see Incubus. The concert was awexome but not quite as impressive as when they came to Champaign a few years ago.
Next on the list: Lollapalooza!! I had gone last year, mainly to see Radiohead, and the lineup this year just didn't strike me as much. However, both my siblings wanted to go so I went along for the ride, and ended up having one of the best weekends I've had in a while. Saturday I got my rock on, Sunday I got my dance on and Friday I got my awesome on. Here's a few samples from the weekend.
Friday started out bleak and rainy, but it was the perfect weather for listening to Justin Vernon, a.k.a. Bon Iver, sing his heart out. The melodic echoes continued when Fleet Foxes took the stage, only pausing to discuss whether or not a girl in the audience could actually live up to her wish of living in their beards. The band that really stole the show on Friday, however was the Decemberists. They performed their newest album "The Hazards of Love," a mythical rock opera, and Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond really brought down the house. We finished out the night with a show by the Kings of Leon, just the high energy end note we needed.
Other awesome shows from the weekend: Coheed and Cambria played so loud their amps could blow a woman's clothes off. Snoop Doggy Dogg had an entire song that consisted solely of him saying "What's my mothafuckin' name?" Tool was creepy and awesome in a Tool kind of way. The Glitch Mob blew up, and Dangermau5 DJ'ed while wearing a giant mau5head.
Today was the first day of classes for the semester, and the two that I had seem promising. First of all, I'm taking fencing this year, which I'm really pumped about. Our professor is this fat, bearded, bald guy who is completely awesome. We're studying sabre technique, which I assume means that by the time May rolls around I'll be able to do this:
Aside from mastering the art of fencing a woman's clothes off, I have a few other goals for myself this year.
I'm currently reading this book titled "Wild at Heart" by John Eldridge. If you're a man and you believe in God, you should definitely read this book. It's inspiring me to fight my battles harder, both in my spiritual life and in school and to become a better man and give my girlfriend what she deserves.
It also really makes me want to put more adventure in my life. I'm usually a fan of winter, but right now I can't wait until these ridiculous sub zero temperatures warm up just a little bit so I can go out somewhere, build a fire and pitch a tent for a few days.
A final goal I have for this semester is to play my guitar more, and on that note I will leave you with this wonderful song by Iron and Wine which I hope will be the next song in my repertoire. Enjoy.
I stumbled across this song the other day and I can't get enough of it. If you're a cartoon loving nerd like me, you may recognize this song as the original [adult swim] "theme song." (You know, back when they had all of those clips of the old people swimming in the pool.)
Whether it's the nostalgia or just the fact that it's a great track to shake it to, enjoy the song, and no kids in the pool!
I am probably the least bloggy person I know, in the sense that I often find it excruciatingly difficult to say how I'm feeling, so, we'll see how well this pans out. One goal for this blog, however, is for me to figure out how to share music with you wonderful people.
As stated before, me no likey the self talky, so no life news in this post. I guess I'll keep up the mysterious act and keep the ladies guessing until I get more used to this blogging nonsense.
Alright, I'm off to explore this site and figure out how I can give you guys cool music.
